EXPERIENCE SUMMARY
Mr. Girgis has 17 years of experience in Construction Management/Inspection, Cost Estimating, Geotechnical and Environmental engineering including all phases of hazardous materials evaluation services, construction monitoring and quality control. He has extensive experience in subsurface investigation including soil drilling and rock coring in ground and underwater, test pit, steel/timber pile installation, pile load testing, rock-socketed soldier caisson and concrete filling, concrete/rebar inspections, compaction, embankment and instrumentation, crack gauges and vibration monitoring, assisting in preparation of geotechnical reports and specifications. He surveys buildings for hazardous materials, and develops survey reports for hazmat abatement design. In addition, he has used various field-screening instruments, evaluated samples for presence of contamination and collected samples for analytical testing.
REPRESENTATIVE PROJECTS
Second Ave Subway Line, NY, NY
For the proposed 2nd Ave subway tunnel, project engineer performing building investigation for several buildings within this 8 ½ mile section tunnel. Investigation included non destructive tests (NDT) and destructive testes (DT) to identify structural members and strength of different building materials. Performed field visits to visually observe the lowest levels of the buildings and estimate the location of footings, grade beams and any other building supporting members, oversight performance of the NDT techniques such as ground penetration radar (GPR) and other instruments to identify footing sizes, slab/wall thickness, rebar sizes and orientation, and strength of concrete/steel members.
Prepared cost estimates and proposals for each building investigated within the project alignment and managed project accounting includes invoices to the client and payments to subcontractors. Prepared and submitted a complete useful and easy to read building investigation report for each building investigated included drawings, sketches, evaluation of GPR images for each element investigated with explanation of findings.
Trans-Hudson Express (THE) Tunnel Project, Northern NJ to NYC
For the proposed tunnel connecting Secaucus Rail Station, New Jersey to the east side of 34th Street, Manhattan, New York, performed borings advancement up to 250 feet in depth, in-situ rock coring and packer testing, and monitoring well installation. Mr. Girgis performed soil drilling and rock coring at all sections along the tunnel line including drilling on a barge in Hudson River and on a buggy in swamps.
He also performed installing and monitoring of instrumentations for settlement and soil behavior study of the embankment including Inclinometers, Probe Extensometers, fully grouted and sand lenses methods of Vibratory Wire Piezometers and Settlement Plate Forms. He also helped documenting and compiling boring/coring logs at the partnership office, and QA/QC of the cored rock at the rock core storage.
(THE) Tunnel Project - Project Consulting Construction Management (PCCM)
Cost Estimator for estimating quantities and take-offs from the preliminary design packages during the 50% and 90% submittals of preliminary design for the proposed civil and structural works. Quantities included fill/cut volumes for Kearny Yard Track alignment, fill volume of the surcharge for geotechnical study, utility quantities, concrete footings and walls for the employee facility and control tower, concrete for panels, inverts, walkway and ducts of Hoboken Shaft, demolition and proposed quantities for bridges, asphalt for parking lots and roads related to site.
Multiple Take-The-Field Projects, five boroughs of New York
Resident engineer provided oversight constructions and redevelopment of several high school athletic field rehabilitation projects in the city of New York. Projects included Grand Street Campus, Lafayette High School, Madison High School and Forest Hills High School. Responsibility included reviewing of historical data to evaluate the past uses of the facility and to identify potential areas of environmental concern, using various field screening instruments for monitoring soil and air contaminants, evaluation of samples for presence of contamination and collection of samples for analytical testing, assisting in preparation of Health and Safety Plan (HASP) to minimize exposure of onsite personnel to contaminated soil, performing Community Air Monitoring Program (CAMP), identifying locations of Underground Storage Tanks (USTs) and impacted soil during excavations.
He provided oversight for the removal of the contaminated soils in accordance with the NYSDEC regulations, and tracked the manifests of different type of soils with different contaminants. He visited several soil facilities to verify the technical and environmental quality of the imported fill. He provided construction oversight during the earthwork operations including proofrolling to density subsurface soil and to identify soft spots, placement of new fill, construction of various utilities, and pavement, evaluated sub grade for construction of foundations, verified in density using nuclear density gauge.
Fulton Street Transit Center, NY, NY
He was responsible for the hazardous materials survey and abatement design of all structures within the Fulton Street Transit Center project impacted by the construction of the new subway transit center in Lower Manhattan, performed pre-demolition and pre-renovation building surveys for hazmat, and evaluation of asbestos and lead in structural members of different buildings, developed survey reports with a clear illustration of sampling locations on plans, identification of homogeneous materials, photo documentation, a summary of test results and findings including presumed materials (PACM), assisted in development of abatement specifications and design as per USEPA and NYC Transit requirements and MTA policies.
Former MGP Site, Bronx, NY
During the progress of remediation activities, performed H Piles & sheet piles installation to unsure that piles were installed to the required depth with minimum vibration and disturbance to the lower soil strata as per the project specification and design, deep excavation to a depth of 20 feet (about 8 feet below water table), excavation support with a trench box and removal of contaminated soil, soil borings & environmental geoprobes, installing of dewatering wells and pizometers, installing of slope indicator inclino...
