Things to Do in Buffalo: Crime, Cults, and Zombies (for Charity)

Why does Buffalo get such a bad rap? Check out these wholesome family activities and tell me where else you want to be this weekend.

Disclaimer:  May not be “wholesome” for your particular family. Baseball’s not for everyone.

Okay, the local history pub crawl isn’t ideal for kids, either.

You know what? Maybe skip this weekend.

They Kill Things

Interactive theater is one of the most exciting things to happen to the dramatic arts in the last hundred years. Site-specific theater further breaks the traditional passivity of ‘seeing a show’ — the essential safety of separate art and audience — by taking productions out of established spaces and into the world.

Torn Space Theater’s They Kill Things transforms Silo City into the dark harvest festival of a remote agricultural community, a setting for “fractured meditations on death, rebirth, killing and conception”. If you’ve missed the last four years of Torn Space’s Silo City productions, or if this ‘interactive theater’ thing sounds uncomfortable, you need to clear your schedule and get out there.

  • When: August 20, 21, 22,  7pm to 9:30pm
  • Where: Silo City, Buffalo

Thanks to Buffalo Rising for featuring this event!

Zombies, Baseball, and Primate Conservation

Throw in an apple pie and you’ve got the most American night out this side of July 4th. The Buffalo Bison’s annual Zombie Night takes over the Bisons/Chiefs game this Saturday, with proceeds benefiting Carmen Presti’s Niagra Falls primate sanctuary.

  • When: August 21st, 7:00 pm
  • Where: Coca-Cola Field

Check out the event page if you’re interested in volunteering or need a hand with costuming.

Lawless Buffalo Pub Crawl

NYC in the 1980s had nothing on Buffalo in the 1880s. All summer, Buffalo History Tours is hosting its Lawless Buffalo Canalside pub crawl, with 2 for 1 craft beers and some seriously gritty local history.

Costumed guides will take you through the heart of what was once called “the most evil square mile in America”, introducing you to local villains, prototypical characters, and a conveniently forgotten era of American history.

  • When: Fridays, 9pm to 11pm
  • Tickets: $20
  • Where: Canalside
